In midlife, your nervous system becomes more reactive, your body simply can't handle stress like it used to.
Stress hits harder. Sleep becomes elusive
This isn’t you “failing” — it’s biology.
But you can support it with simple, calming habits, but you need to find what works for you.
It can be anything; coffee with friends, time in nature, listening to a podcast, cooking, baking, running, walking, meditation, spa day, facial, massage. Anything that relaxes you.

Here are my five top tips to reduce stress and improve sleep. Remember, keep it simple:
- One Minute of Slow Breathing — Instantly lowers stress hormones in the moment.
- Morning Light Exposure — Resets your body clock. It works
- Reduce Alcohol — Your sleep will be 10 times better and your stress will come right down. Your focus will be better, mood, energy, patience.... Need I go on?
If you can reduce it to just Friday and Saturday, that would be ideal, giving you a full 5 days alcohol free every week.
- Reduce Screens After 8pm — Helps melatonin production.
- 10 Minutes Guided Meditation - before bed - calm evenings = better sleep = better days
And first thing in the morning, before you pick up your phone.
Why Morning Meditation ?
A big reason morning meditation works so well is because your brain is more receptive and open to change at that time.
When you wake up, your brain is in a theta state — the same state linked to learning, habit formation, and rewiring patterns. It’s like your mind is softer clay and easier to shape.
- Theta state — early morning brainwaves make you more suggestible and open to new habits.
- Neuroplasticity boost — your brain is primed to create new pathways before the day’s stress kicks in.
- Fresh emotional baseline — you haven’t reacted to anything yet, so it’s easier to shift mindset.
- Habit anchoring — your brain loves routines tied to waking up; they stick faster.
- Lower mental clutter — fewer thoughts competing for attention means deeper meditation.
It's great, try it!
