It has been lovely to see husband and wife teams and friends booking together onto my classes. There is a lot to be said for partner and group training. Here are some of the positives to be had
- MORE FUN To put it simply, it's just much more fun!
- COMMITMENT and ACCOUNTABILITY You're much more likely to stick to it. Especially if you've made an appointment to meet with your friend to exercise together. You can't let them down! Think commitment and accountability
- GOALS MET A shared goal is a goal that will be achieved
- NEW FRIENDS You will build brand new friendships with like minded people
- WORK HARDER - You'll work harder with someone else around. You can't let them beat you!
- MOTIVATION - You can motivate and encourage each other when you're finding it a bit tough!
- GET AN ENDORPHIN boost! -
“Group workouts can have a couple of mental advantages over solo workouts. While it’s true that working out releases endorphins (think of all of that talk of a runner’s highs), a group setting can lead to the release of endorphins outside of just physical exertion,” says Ford, an exercise psychologist “One way is through smiling. Smiling has been shown to increase endorphin levels in studies. So when you’re in a great class or with a great bunch of people working out, that kind of conviviality can really make you feel great outside of just your runner’s high. An added benefit of this mood boost is that when you’re pushing yourself hard and struggling through more difficult parts of your workout you’ll feel better and more energised to complete the exercises.” NBC News
- COFFEE and CATCH UP - And finally. There is nothing nicer than a coffee and catch up after exercising together!
